Hi Harold,
You are correct about accessing the ramp via the "Bicycle path" and parking.  The thinking behind this is that there may be congestion if you try to drive down on the levee and park your rig in the cruising pits, but we don't know if this will be true or not.  Another reason would be due to weather conditions.  If it rains heavily and the ground is difficult to drive on, it's better for you to park on hard surface.  Again -we don't know what it will be like, because we've never been here before for Hoverally.  Racers are still expected to drive down onto the levee and park in the pit area.  We are expecting more cruisers than racers, and if someone wants to drive down to the cruising pit and park their rig there, it's probably going to be ok, but we'll wait and see.

Here is an additional map of the Site.  This is a slightly older version prepared by Scott.  Note there is a new dirt ramp being constructed for the Cruisers next to the cruiser pit area.

See you next weekend!

Dave, Marquis, and all the others involved have done an excellent job in planning this event,  I especially appreciate the addresses and maps that have been included in this thread.  I have one hopefully minor question:  Do I correctly assume that we drive our vehicles
down to the ramp on the bicycle path to unload crafts?  And then of course drive back to the school for parking vehicles.....

Dave, I suppose the restaurant closing gave you a jolt.  Looks like you have come up with a fine "plan B".

To all:  be reminded once more about the auction....I have my stuff ready to pack up.  For those who donate, if needed, I think it would be beneficial if they could offer a sentence about any item that is not readily identified.  I realize that time will be limited and there is much to cover Saturday evening.  And, hopefully we can declare minimum bids.  "C'yall next week!!!"

Several maps added -  click the links to view the maps

This map shows an expanded view of the Cruiser parking/ramp south of the Rally site.  Note it's on the other side of the river

This map shows the location of Poor Farmers RV and Campground relative to Piqua Rally site.

Please take a minute to familiarize yourselves with how to get around from place to place.  If you have GPS in your vehicle, the address of the Campground is 7211 N. Lostcreek-Shelby Rd, Fletcher, OH

The address of the Cruiser ramp/parking is  625 S. Main St. Piqua, OH

More updates - (You will also receive this info by email)

New Saturday Evening Venue - The venue for our Saturday eve. banquet has changed.  The previous venue has suddenly and without warning closed its doors and gone out of business, leaving us to scramble to find a new venue with short notice.  We are now renting the "Big Shelter" at the "Poor Farmers" campground where most of us will be staying.  It's a little bit rustic, but will suit our purposes nicely and we have hired Mark Mabelitini of At Home Bistro, to cater our meal, so it's sure to be a great way to end the day of racing and cruising activities.

Silent Auction Fund Raiser - We will be having a silent auction to raise funds for the Hoverclub.  The auction takes place during the Sat. eve. meal.  We are asking that you simply bring items to donate for sale at the auction, and bring your checkbook to buy items.  This is our once a year fundraiser for the club!

Cruiser Parking - We are asking that you launch your craft from the public ramp located 200 yards south of the rally site, (located at 625 S. Main St.) and park your vehicles/trailers in the back parking lot of the Benton Intermediate Elementary School.  Click HERE for the Map.  Access to the ramp and the school parking lot are annotated with red lines.  After launching your craft, come up to the Rally site and park your craft in the Cruising pits.  Those with RV's or large vehicles can also park here.  This way you can get in and out of the site by hovercraft without having to drive your vehicle up the levee ramp where space might get congested due to racing activity.

Challenge Prizes - The Cruiser Challenge is being sponsored by Slipstream Hover Technologies.  a $100 Slipstream gift certificate will go to the winner of each of two challenges.  So come prepared for some fun competition.

Racers - We still need more racers.  If you are planning to race, and have not yet registered please do so now.  You don't need to pay any fees when you register, you can pay on the day of the event. Never raced before?  Novice racers are welcome!

Work Day, July 13 - We are having a work day at the Rally site July 13. from 8am to 1pm.  We will be preparing the site by mowing grass, smoothing the transitions, and basically working the ground.

The Hoverclub is buying lunch for all that show up to help!  Bring rakes, shovels, riding mower if you have one, whatever you can bring.

Folks, this is our largest event of the year, and I speak on behalf of the entire Hoverally Planning Committee when I say that nothing gives us more joy than to see a large turnout at Hoverally.  We do this for the club.  We do it for you, and we want to see you there!

If you have not registered yet, please take a moment and do so now.  We need to know how many are coming to make sure we have enough meals prepared, and so we can plan to accommodate everyone.  Please take a moment and read through all the information on the Hoverally Web page.

Don't forget about the Quality Construction and Technical Innovation awards that are given out annually at Hoverally. If you've built a craft in the last year, or have done something innovative to improve your craft - YOU SHOULD ENTER! We would prefer members attend in person with your craft for judging but if you can't make it you can still enter. If that's you, then start taking pictures and writing down some details and we'll have the paperwork posted shortly.

We are proud to mention tonight that Slipstream Hover Technologies will once again sponsor the prizes for the Hoverally Point-to-Point Challenge & Obstacle Courses. $100 Slipstream gift certificates to the winners!
Here's the details of the competitions that are open to all club members with a craft:

Obstacle Course – Driver Consistency

The driver must complete 3 separate timed runs of a course.  The objective is to complete each run in as close to the same amount of time as possible, not for speed.  Competitors will be scored by subtracting the difference in time between run #1 & run #2, and run #2 & run #3.  You add the two differences in time together to get a total time.  The driver with the lowest combined time is declared the winner.  The stopwatch starts when the craft crosses a starting point and stops when it crosses that same point on the return trip.

Example:

Run 2

Run 3

Point to Point Challenge
The general format of this challenge over the years has been that there will be a series of numbered markers placed on the river that are worth certain point values.  The farther away the marker is from the rally site, the more points it is worth.  In addition to the markers there are opportunities to earn extra points by collecting various stuff on the river.  Things may be planted, they may be river junk that has washed up on the shore.  The craft that collects the most points is declared the winner.  Passengers are encouraged to help scout and retrieve items.

Haven't registered?  Now's a good time!  Here's the place to do it, just click on the grey "Register Now" button:

See you there!

You know that part you have laying around your garage you don't need anymore? There's nothing wrong with it, you just have it sitting around? How about donating it to the club's silent auction for Hoverally? It frees up space in your garage, helps other members out with the opportunity to get what they need, and benefits the club at the same time! Shoot, maybe you have something non-hovercraft related that you think someone would enjoy - you can donate that too! Maybe you have connections through friends or work and can come up with a great item. That will work too! All kinds of possibilities here, how about it?

done!

Hi everyone - we're almost a month away from Hoverally and it's going to be a good one!  If you haven't looked at the Hoverally event page yet you can find all the basic info there.  Look for more announcements coming up in the next few weeks on the website & forum.  If you haven't registered yet please take a moment to do so.  You can pay online with your credit card or wait and pay when you arrive.

Planning on attending?  How about looking in the member directory and calling up some members near you and give them some encouragement.  Car pool, caravan, whatever it takes!

We look forward to seeing you there!
